Zindaggi Rocks: Review By TOI

Sushmita jives. Tanuja twists. Moushumi boogie woogies. Shiney rocks. And the movie? It blends hip-hop with slip-slop, which means that sometimes, it makes the right moves and sometimes, it gets two right feet.

There’s an overplay of grief. There are too many songs. The songs aren’t really rock-star material and the plot is bizarre, yet predictable.

But it’s the characters that make this movie come alive, in moments. While Sushmita Sen essays the role of a pop singer-cum-single mother with real-life ease, Shiney plays the sad doctor who leads a solitary life with characteristic restraint.

The romance between these two different souls blooms after the doctor treats the rock star for a flesh wound. Her effervescence draws him into a totally new world and makes him forget his personal grief.

The new world’s a dizzy mix of candlelight dinners, football matches, picnics, rock shows, all-night tete-tetes… in short, a truckload of masti and mazaa. Until grief strikes again. And it is here the film begins its downswing into the maudlin. Zindaggi no longer rocks. It sucks!

Watch the film for its performances. Shiney puts up another stellar show with his still-waters-run-deep act. But Hazaron Khwahishen… still remains his most memorable act.
