"Lachit The Warrior," an animated film directed by Parthasarathi Mahanta and produced by Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, has earned a coveted spot in the prestigious 'Indian Panorama' of the International Film Festival of India 2023 (IFFI), set to take place in Goa. The global audience will witness the screening of this historical animation on November 21, 2023.
The narrative of "Lachit" unfolds in seventeenth-century Assam, a time when marauding Mughals posed a formidable threat to the Ahom dynasty. In 1662, the Ahoms suffered defeats, losing significant territories. Amidst the turmoil, Lachit, a valiant man, questioned the king's inability to find a worthy opponent for the Mughals. Acknowledging Lachit's remarkable valor, the king summoned him to lead the army against the invaders.
Directed by Parthasarathi Mahanta, "Lachit The Warrior" serves as an audio-visual documentary on Lachit Barphukan, delving into his ancestry, charismatic personality, diplomatic and naval skills, physical prowess, unmatched valor, and resolute patriotism. The film chronicles the events leading to the reclamation of Guwahati from the Mughals in 1667, the pivotal battle of Alaboi in 1669, and the decisive victory in the battle of Saraighat in 1671, marking the end of Mughal military campaigns.
The film attributes the preservation of the nation's geographical integrity to Lachit's heroic actions. Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury provides the narration, and Rupam Talukdar contributes to the music. Anupam Mahanta serves as the creative director, with storyboarding and illustration by Hrishikesh Bora, and VFX by Ratul Dutta.
"Lachit The Warrior" has already gained recognition at various international film festivals, including the 15th Jaipur International Film Festival 2023, the North East India International Film Festival 2023 in Mumbai, and the 54th International Film Festival of India in Goa. The film has been selected, screened, and honored in multiple festivals, showcasing its global appeal and acclaim.
