Preity G Zinta, a beloved and recognizable star of Indian cinema, will be visiting Birmingham in November to mark the Diwali festival. She will be welcomed by Mayor Andy Street, and together, they will oversee a weekend of events on Saturday, November 4th, and Sunday, November 5th, 2023, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India.

Mayor Andy Street expressed his excitement about the upcoming Diwali celebrations, stating, "Diwali is a special time for the Indian diaspora, and communities right across our region are looking forward to celebrating the Festival of Lights. From the very outset of my time as Mayor, the WMCA has worked closely with local groups and the Consulate General of India to mark this occasion in suitably grand style – with dance, special guests, and entertainment. This year, events will be spread across the weekend of Saturday, November 4th, and Sunday, November 5th, including a star-studded gala dinner at Millennium Point with Bollywood star turned self-made businesswoman Preity Zinta and a cultural program at Birmingham Town Hall. I look forward to seeing local people at the festivities and joining in the celebrations myself."

Preity G Zinta's life story has captivated audiences worldwide, particularly across the Subcontinent, Asia, and the Middle East. As a two-time Film Fare award winner, she is fondly remembered for her roles in films like 'Veer Zaara' and several other blockbusters. Now based in LA, Preity has achieved significant success in the business world, becoming one of the richest self-made Indian females globally due to her investment interests, production company, and co-ownership of the PUNJAB KINGS cricket team in the IPL. She has also served as a UN AIDS ambassador and was part of the Global Entrepreneurs Council for the UN, actively involved in extensive charity work.

Preity G Zinta is expected to receive honors from some of Birmingham's leading civic and educational institutions, and she will undoubtedly receive a warm welcome from the city's numerous Indian students attending colleges and universities, as well as the substantial Indian diaspora in the city and the wider region. Preity's last appearance in the UK was over a decade ago when she spoke to Oxford University students at the Oxford Union Society.

Speaking about her upcoming visits, Preity said, "I'm very excited to be part of the Diwali celebrations in Birmingham. Looking forward to meeting all the wonderful people there and celebrating the Festival of Light with them."
